New reduced speed limit on Cordillera Street, Maritime Way, Great Lakes Avenue, and Canadian Shield Avenue

Since taking office in December of last year, it quickly became apparent that more needed to be done to address speeding on the streets off of Campeau around the William’s Court Apartments.

As your Councillor, I have the ability to implement various traffic calming measures to make our streets and our neighbourhoods safer. Measures often include slow down signs and/or pavement marking on the roads, speed radar boards, or flex stakes in the middle of the road. For this neighbourhood, I have chosen to implement new gateway signage, which was installed this week. This means that effective this week the speed limit on Cordillera Street, Maritime Way, Great Lakes Avenue, and Canadian Shield Avenue has been reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h. This new reduced speed limit is displayed on signs as you enter this neighbourhood.

It is my hope that this new signage and reduced speed limit will deter drivers from speeding through this neighbourhood and will result in a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers. I will continue to work with our police service to ensure enforcement is also part of the solution. Thank you to everyone who reached out with their concerns. Please continue to do so anytime.
