Update on OC Transpo Service

Our city’s OC Transpo service has been very unreliable during January. Continued issues with LRT have had far reaching impact throughout Ottawa. RTG and RTM have acknowledged they must do better and must implement changes right away. They have committed to bringing in additional expertise and creating a specialized team to modify and adjust operations as needed to ensure they deliver service as expected.

On Tuesday of this week, OC Transpo implemented “Special Service” during peak times to address a shortage of trains, which was caused by a variety of reasons. We need 13 trains in service for LRT to work efficiently!

To ensure that customers are not left behind due to the shortage of trains currently being experienced, Special Service will be in place until Friday, January 31st.

What does this mean for Kanata North transit users?

In the morning between 7:30 am and 9 am, buses that would normally terminate at Tunney’s Station, will stop at Tunney’s to let passengers off and will then carry on downtown. You may choose to stay on the bus to your destination downtown if you wish.

In the afternoon between 3 pm and 5:30 pm, special bus service is available on Albert between Bank and O’Connor.

This service will be maintained until January 31st while RTM works to address issues. If a decision is made to continue it, I will share details as I receive them.

Like many of you, I am very frustrated with the current level of disruptions to our city’s LRT service, which is having a systematic impact throughout the bus network as well. I will continue to share issues directly with OC Transpo Management and encourage you to reach out with your feedback as well.
