ClubLink Update #28

Good evening Kanata North neighbours,

I hope you have been able to enjoy your weekend, now that the heat wave has finally broke with some much-needed rain. I am reaching out tonight to provide an important update on the court case regarding ClubLink and the Forty Percent Agreement.

I know this has been a long time coming for our community. Since ClubLink first announced their intentions back in 2018 many of you have been engaged throughout the process. You have joined over 500 of our neighbours at multiple townhalls, knocked on countless of doors to ensure our neighbours had the facts, followed the planning process that has resulted in 250 technical comments to the developer, and sent in hundreds of letters and emails ensuring that my Council colleagues are engaged on this issue.

I appreciate that this process has been frustrating, hard to follow, and created much uncertainty for our community. However, after several delays the city will be standing up for our community and defending the Forty Percent Agreement. As I shared in my last update, I am happy that the courts have allowed for our community to follow the proceedings virtually. Each day starting at 10 a.m. you can follow the proceedings by using these links:

You can expect that tomorrow, on July 13th, the city will first present its compelling arguments and be followed by the Kanata Greenspace Protection Coalition lawyers. On the second day, July 14th, ClubLink will be allotted the same amount of time to respond. On the third day, July 15th, rebuttal arguments are heard, and this may not take the full day.

This has certainly been a long process, but the start of the court case does not mean the work is over. I will continue to provide our community with updates as I have them and appreciate that our determination to ensure this greenspace is protected remains stronger than ever.
