September 21 Board of Health Meeting

Last night, at Ottawa Public Health Board Meeting it was clear that the hardworking team lead by Dr. Vera Etches certainly has a lot going on and doing tremendous work, not just on COVID-19 but across multiple areas important to the health and well being of our community.

At the board meeting we heard from Cameron Love from the The Ottawa Hospital – L’Hôpital d’Ottawa who provided an update on the testing situation & COVID-19 response on behalf of the Champlain COVID-19 Response Committee.

I am not a member of this board but felt it was important to highlight the feedback I have heard from many in our community. That we must have more test centres, better solutions for families, and better communications with residents.

If you missed the Ottawa Public Health board meeting you can watch it here. We need immediate action and I know Mayor Jim Watson, Councillor Keith Egli, the Chair of the board, are working strongly to advocate to Ontario Health and the other health partners for more support.

I will continue to work on this issue as our community needs improvements. I hear your frustration, but please remember that the staff at these test centres are human too and are not responsible for the logistics of the test centres. We will get through COVID-19 together.
