Construction Disruptions

Taggart Construction will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the normal life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there will be some inconvenience during the course of the work, such as delays when travelling through the construction zone, noise, vibration and dust.

Vibrations

You may feel vibrations due to heavy equipment and rock removal operations. Vibrations from construction activities are quite common and rarely cause any problems. Vibrations are monitored and recorded adjacent to the construction area. Vibration levels are constantly checked to ensure they do not exceed maximum threshold values established by the City of Ottawa and the Province of Ontario for safe construction practices.

Blasting

Taggart Construction will be completing some controlled blasting operations on Shirley’s Brook Drive to expedite the removal of rock required for the sanitary sewer installation. The Contractor is responsible to complete all works in accordance with Provincial regulations and will be implementing appropriate safety measures to ensure there is no risk to the public from this work. Residents adjacent to the impacted area will be directly notified by the Contractor.

Pre-Construction Survey

Taggart Construction is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until the construction project is entirely completed. Taggart Construction is also required by the City to carry liability insurance before any work may proceed. Properties located near the work area were contacted (March/April 2021) to complete a pre-construction inspection of the properties. In addition, you may wish to complete your own survey of pre-construction conditions on your property. Your survey should include photographs.
All properties within 150m of the blasting limits will be contacted in the upcoming weeks to offer a new preconstruction survey prior to commencement of the blasting works. The subcontractor that has been engaged to complete this work is Blastek Engineering Group.

Property Damage

As part of the contract, the contractor assumes full responsibility for the construction work until completion as well as for any damages to private property resulting from these construction activities. In the event of such occurrences, all claims for damages should be immediately reported both verbally and in writing to the contractor and to the City’s On-Site Representative. This will ensure prompt notification of appropriate authorities to complete the claim investigations.
