This week impacted residents were sent this construction notice for work beginning on the Varley/Leacock/Teron Sidewalk Project. The project is expected to begin late next week. The objective of the project is to fill gaps in the existing sidewalk network and to improve facilities for pedestrians in accordance with the Ottawa Pedestrian Plan. The new sidewalks will predominately be constructed on the following road segments:

  • Varley Drive west from Beaverbrook Road to Carr Crescent north on the east side of the road
  • Varley Drive east from Beaverbrook Road to Milne Crescent north on the west side of the road
  • Leacock Drive west from Beaverbrook Road to The Parkway on the west side of the road, along with pathway upgrades to the Alice Wilson North Trail through Sandwell Green Park
  • Teron Road from Bethune Way to the recently built sidewalk in front of the new development at the Teron Road & March Road intersection on the east side of the road

In addition to the new sidewalks, three raised pedestrian crossovers and reduced roadway widths will be implemented in areas on Varley Drive and Leacock Drive to contribute to traffic calming.

Contractors will be cautious, but if residents have a subsurface lawn irrigation system that extents into City’s right of way, please notify the project team identified below to discuss requirements to ensure the system is not damaged during construction.

With school traffic resuming soon, please be mindful of all road users, including other vehicles, buses, bikes, pedestrians and little ones getting on and off school buses – especially during this time of construction.

Residents can find out more about the project by either reviewing the construction notice or heading to the Varley Drive, Leacock Drive and Teron Road Sidewalks Project page on the City of Ottawa Website.
