Our team received an update concerning the sidewalks on Varley, Leacock, and Teron. Here’s a rough timeline of remaining work:
May to late-June 2025
The contractor plans to remobilize with their crews and equipment the week of May 5th to commence with their remaining works for the project. Work during this time will predominately consist of:
- Permanent asphalt reinstatements where required within the roadway and at driveways. This will mostly occur on Varley, however there are some areas on Leacock that will also have this done where needed.
- Landscaping reinstatements throughout the project area, including:
- Sod installation along the sidewalks on Varley and Leacock where front lawns were impacted by the works.
- Seeding along the pathway upgrades to the Alice Wilson North Trail through Sandwell Green Park and along the new portion of sidewalk on Teron.
- Beginning to address any deficiencies noted following the construction last year.
Late-June to early-August 2025
Following the end of the school year, the contractor will complete the works associated with the three raised pedestrian crossovers. The work for these crossovers remains as previously scoped at the below locations:
- Leacock Drive, north of Tiffany Crescent
- Currently an at-grade school guard crossing adjacent to Stephen Leacock Public School, with the construction including new lighting (by City Street Lighting), drainage works, and a small piece of new sidewalk on the school side of Leacock to support with the raised crossover.
- Varley Drive East, south of Weeping Willow North
- Currently an at-grade pedestrian crossover with street lighting south of Georges Vanier Catholic School, however will be converted to raised crossing with the associated drainage works.
- Varley Drive West, north of Carr North
- Currently an at-grade school guard crossing south of W. Erskine Johnston Public School, with the construction including new lighting (by City Street Lighting), drainage works, and a small sidewalk realignment on the west side of Varley to support with the raised crossover.
In addition to the above, the contractor sent personnel to site last week to begin cleaning garbage/debris uncovered following the winter and will continue to do so as needed until their remobilization next month.
We’ll provide further details as they become available.
