Community Voice Column – January 15, 2020

Happy New Year! My team and I are excited to be back in the office and ready to serve you.

With the arrival of winter weather, it is important to know what to expect regarding road maintenance. Snow removal is based on a priority system with highways and major roads cleared first. After accumulation, crews focus their efforts on residential roads, sidewalks, and bus stops. Please remember to place waste bins on the ground away from plows and, when possible, clear catch basins and fire hydrants by your house. Should you have any concerns regarding snow removal, please submit a service request online at Ottawa.ca or by calling 3-1-1.

Thank you to all who submitted their vote for the future of the Kanata North Mosquito Program. Ballots are now being counted, and results of the vote will be announced soon. I will share updates as I have them.

There are two locations that are scheduled for blasting in Kanata North this winter. Richardson Ridge Phase 4 has commenced, and 5100 Kanata Avenue commercial development will start in the coming days.

Throughout 2019 I hosted monthly community meetings as an opportunity to share updates and answer questions you may have. Winter weather can be unpredictable. Hence, for the winter months, I decided to move my community meetings online. You can watch the video recordings at your convenience and ask questions by commenting on the stream or by sending me an email at Jenna.Sudds@Ottawa.ca. Links to the video presentations are available at KanataNorth.ca.

Happy to share that the long overdue Campeau Drive construction work has begun with a completion date of fall 2021. The contract has been rewarded to Aecon Construction. Stay tuned for more information to come.

The previously scheduled January 20th public meeting for the proposed golf course development was cancelled. ClubLink, Minto and Richcraft notified the city they were not willing to attend. The city recently sent back over 200 technical comments on the application. The applicant now needs to respond to these comments with revised studies and plans that address these issues. The city will schedule a public meeting if/when revised plans are submitted. Further, the city will be in court the week of February 24th seeking clarification on the Forty Percent Agreement. I will share updates via my website at KanataNorth.ca.

Happy Lunar New Year to all those celebrating this week!
