Community Voice Column – March 30, 2019

Spring has finally arrived! Many thanks to the city crews for their hard work throughout the winter months and to everyone in our community for helping clear the fi re hydrants, catch basins and for your patience. My team is in the process of preparing the winter season end report, to share with city staff on winter snow operations in Kanata North to work to proactively address issues for next season.

Early March, Ottawa City Council unanimously approved the 2019 budget, and I am happy to share that I was able to secure funding for, among other things, a new Connexion bus route to/from Kanata North. Service will start with the launch of LRT.

Many thanks to those who came out to my transit community meeting and the over 500 people who completed the transit survey. I am working with OC Transpo staff to review the concerns that were raised and also to plan the new Connexion bus route that will serve us soon.

I will continue to take every step possible to oppose development of the Kanata Golf and Country Club lands on the community’s behalf with the support from the Mayor and city staff. Most recent updates can be found on my website, including a letter the city sent to ClubLink’s solicitor on March 14th, advising ClubLink that – should they move forward with a planning or rezoning application – the city will initiate court proceedings to seek a declaration that ClubLink is required to abide by terms of the Forty Percent Agreement. I will continue to work with the Kanata Greenspace Steering Committee on this. We will be out canvassing the weekend of April 27-28th. Volunteers are needed. Hydro One will be conducting Vegetation Management for the Hydro Corridor that runs beside March Road and continues along Steacie Drive in the very near future. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Katrina Kim, Community Relations, Hydro One at 1.877.345.6799.

I have received many comments from residents about the proposed development of a gas station, car wash, and retail plaza at 471 Terry Fox Dr. I am listening to your concerns and have recently met with city planners and the developer. Please send further comments directly to myself at Jenna.Sudds@ottawa.ca. A community meeting will be planned for later this month.
