Community Voice Column – May 2021

The month of May has given me many reasons to be optimistic. Vaccine distribution has accelerated, essential workers are getting vaccinated, and more and more residents become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine each week. This push towards community immunity is extremely reassuring. The finish line of this ‘pandemic marathon’ is now in sight. In order to reach it though, please adhere to the restrictions and continue to follow the guidelines from public health officials.

Ottawa Public Health provides detailed information on COVID-19 vaccines on their website, at I will also continue to provide regular updates via my website, social channels, and newsletter. If you’re eligible for a vaccine, please don’t hesitate. Get yourself scheduled for a vaccine as soon as possible.

On June 2 from 1 pm to 3 pm, I’m hosting a virtual Kanata North Seniors’ Summit to discuss the Older Adult Plan and how we can ensure a livable, walkable community for older adults. I welcome your ideas and hope you will join me. More details are available on my website at

With summer weather arriving, many in our community are walking and enjoying our greenspaces. If you spot a garbage bin that needs emptying, grass that needs cutting, or other concerns, please call 3-1-1 or submit a service query online at

I’m looking forward to spending the Victoria Day long weekend with my immediate family. Please also limit your contacts to just those in your household, avoid crowded outdoor spaces, and always wear a mask if physical distancing cannot be maintained to keep yourself and our community safe.

Have a wonderful long weekend! Stay safe!
