Community Voice Column – October 3, 2019

Summer has come and gone, and it’s a beautiful start to fall! I’m excited to share that the trail on the north side of the Beaver Pond has been temporarily reopened. I encourage you all to get out and enjoy it. Such a treasure in our community!

I know, September is a busy month for many, and I’d like to thank you all for taking the time to attend my September 17th Community Meeting – in person and online – and the City of Ottawa Official Plan Consultation on September 24th. Details on the Official Plan can be found online: I encourage everyone to please take a look and to provide feedback.

I enjoyed celebrating Franco-Ontarian Flag Day at École Élémentaire Publique Julie-Payette and Richcraft Recreation Complex. Thank you to all who joined us and a special thank you to the École Élémentaire Publique Julie-Payette student choir.

Thanks to the amazing group of volunteers who organize the weekly Kanata parkrun events. I enjoyed joining you for your 2nd Anniversary Run as your Honourary Race Director.

The arboretum at the Beaver Pond will be named after Mario Poirier in recognition for all the amazing contributions he led in our community. What a beautiful celebration, thank you for inviting me.

Thank you to Ecology Ottawa for hosting two greenspace protection workshops in Kanata North this past month. I’m excited to share that our community will be getting more trees as part of the Forestry Tree Planting program, but we also need to do everything in our power to preserve the greenspace we have.

The City of Ottawa Let’s Bike to Transit team along with EnviroCentre lead a great ride around Kanata North on September 21st. Thanks to all who participated!

Fingers crossed, but it looks like our garbage situation has improved. In case your waste pickup gets missed, please email me at and leave your bins out. My office will make sure that city crews return the following morning to collect them.

I’ve said it for years: #SeriousTechLivesHere in Kanata North! The Connected & Autonomous Vehicles conference was a great success, bringing together hundreds of industry leaders here in our community to discuss the tech and solutions driving the connected and autonomous vehicles industry.

I enjoyed attending the grand opening of Arrowsmith Piano in their new location at 300 March Road. Congratulations Jane!
