With school resuming, I know this new month brings uncertainty to many in our community. As a parent myself, I’m aware that this is a stressful time for many families. As we navigate this, I encourage you to be patient with yourself, your family, and the schools. Keeping case numbers low is key to supporting schools through this time. We all have a part to play. We will get through this together.
I cannot stress enough that COVID-19 is still circulating in our community. The number of cases over the last month have continued to climb. Ottawa has become a hot spot in the Province, and this isn’t something to be proud of. We need to focus on keeping our close contacts low and limiting our exposures. With the start of school just around the corner, I implore you to follow the advice of Ottawa Public Health including physical distancing, washing your hands, and wearing a mask. You can find my regular COVID-19 updates on my website at KanataNorth.ca/COVID19.
We know that evidence shows wearing a mask reduces the risk of COVID-19 transmission. At the last Council Meeting, City Council extended the temporary by-law to make masks mandatory in indoor public spaces. Further, masks are now also mandatory in the common areas of condos and apartment buildings. Please wear a mask whenever physical distancing is not possible.
On August 18 I had the pleasure of virtually sitting down with local Black women, Leading Ladies of Canada, and Councillors Gower and Hubley to discuss racism in our community. While it was difficult to listen to the women’s experiences with racism, it was inspiring to hear the ways that we can continue to make a difference. I encourage you all to watch the discussion, posted on my website.
Throughout the pandemic, construction crews continued to be busy working in Kanata North. I am thrilled to see the March Road Resurfacing Project completed early, during a period with less traffic. Work continues on the Herzberg Sewer Trunk Project, and the Campeau Extension Project is on schedule. Crews just began construction on a new roundabout at Huntmar Road and Richardson Side Road, which will improve traffic flow. I will continue to share details on these projects through my newsletter and website.
My next Kanata North Virtual Community Meeting will take place on September 22, at 7 p.m. Join me on Facebook as I discuss all the Kanata North Updates and answer your questions. The video will also be posted to my website afterwards for those who don’t use Facebook.
As always, please reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns: Jenna.Sudds@ottawa.ca.
