Hello Kanata North,
I wanted to reach out to residents to make sure you are aware of the potential storm that is to impact the area. Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Ottawa Region advising of a spring snow/ice weather event forecasted to arrive late Friday and last until Monday. This is expected to bring snow, ice pellets and freezing rain. Local snowfall and ice pellet accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres and ice accretion from the freezing rain between 5 to 10 millimetres are possible. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots will become icy and slippery, and there is a possibility of power outages and tree damage from the ice accretion.
Hydro Ottawa is reminding customers to be prepared for the possibility of extended power outages. Please ensure that electronics, such as cell phones and laptops, are fully charged ahead of the storm. To learn more about storm preparedness, please visit Hydro’s Outage Safety page. If outages occur, an estimated time of restoration will be determined for each outage once our crews have assessed the damage. The safety of crews and the public remains top priority. The Outage Map is updated every 15 minutes as new information comes in from our crews. For your safety, if you spot a downed power line or come across a fallen tree/branch on a wire, never attempt to approach or move them yourself. Stay back – at least 10 metres away – and call 911 immediately, followed by Hydro Ottawa at 613-738-6400.
Updates and impacts to the City’s services due to this spring storm and possible freezing rain are available here. The City has also made available useful tips on emergency preparedness.
Please be sure to stay safe,
Councillor Cathy Curry
